$386 million is a hefty payday. Powerball players have a shot at winning the jackpot during tonight’s drawing. That’s right, the Powerball jackpot now sits at nearly $400 million, and Michigan players can get in on the action.

To play Powerball, , then buy Powerball tickets online with just a few clicks.

First, let’s discuss how Powerball works. It’s pretty simple overall, but there are a few factors to consider.

The core Powerball game requires players to select six numbers: 5 white ball numbers between 1 and 69, then one red Powerball number between 1 and 26. A single grouping of six selected numbers is called a “line,” and a line is just another word for an entry into the Powerball drawing. One line costs $2, and players can purchase multiple lines at once.

There’s also the option to add Power Play to your ticket for $1 more per line. Power Play adds a multiplier ball to your line up to 10x (the 10x multiplier is only available for advertised jackpots less than $150,000,000, otherwise the highest multiplier is 5x). The multiplier applies only to non-jackpot prizes.

Finally, plates can add Double Play to tickets but only when they’re purchased in-store. Online purchases don’t allow Double Play. Adding double Play enters your numbers into a second-chance drawing that occurs roughly 40 minutes after the initial drawing. Double Play costs $1 extra per line.

Your odds of winning the jackpot in Powerball are 1 in 292,201,338. Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 25.

Here are some rapid fire things to know about Powerball.

The game was founded in 1992. Today, the game is offered in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Powerball drawings take place three times per week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 11 p.m. ET. Players can purchase entries until 15 minutes before a scheduled drawing. Tickets purchased after that cutoff will be applied to the next scheduled drawing.

The largest Powerball jackpots ever awarded were:

  • $2.04 billion, November 2022
  • $1.586 billion, January 2016
  • $1.08 billion, July 2023

Lottery players must live in Michigan and be 18 or older.

The last Powerball numbers were drawn on Monday, August 28:

  • White balls: 4, 6, 25, 55, 68
  • Powerball: 26
  • Power Play: 2x

Powerball and its sibling game, Mega Millions, may be two of the best-known lottery games, but the Michigan Lottery offers a plethora of other game types for players. Here are a few of our favorites.

Prize Chickens is an instant game with a farmhouse twist! Find five or more matching symbols to win. Multipliers up to 25x are available. Meanwhile, there’s a bonus on offer. Get three bonus symbols to launch the Chicken Coop bonus game.

Prize Chickens plays a lot like a slot game. You can enter for as low as $0.10 per play or up to $20. A single “play” is essentially one spin of the game’s reels.

The top prize is $100,000.

Caribbean Cashword puts a tropical twist on a popular game format. Entries cost between $0.25 and $5, and the top prize is $150,000. To play, you reveal letters on the board in an attempt to form words. Some letters might also have a star symbol in their square. Collect three star symbols for 2 bonus letter reveals. Finding three or more complete words will get you a prize.

If you want to play quickly, you can select the “reveal all” option.

Underwater Treasures has a maximum prize of $100,000. Entries cost $0.05 to $2. The game is of the “collector” style.

Certain fish symbols grant instant wins, while shells reveal surprises and other sea creatures (for example, a jellyfish or octopus) can trigger a bonus round.

Play is very simple. Click the play button to reveal the symbols within the bubbles and collect creatures. A fish wins the corresponding amount instantly while collecting enough of other creatures will grant prizes.

The Michigan Lottery allows you to play most of its games in demo mode. We recommend giving this option a try if you aren’t familiar with a particular game type. It lets you play without risking money, get acclimated, and then transition to real money play once you have the hang of things.
