The Powerball jackpot currently sits at $313 million. The next drawing is tonight at 11 p.m. ET. Players can purchase entries online or in person until 15 minutes before the drawing..

Powerball emerged from its predecessor, the Lotto America game, which was launched in 1988. It rebranded to Powerball in 1992.

The Powerball is overseen by the Multi-State Lottery Association (also known for running Mega Millions). The first Powerball drawing took place on April 19, 1992. Initially, Powerball drawings occurred twice weekly, happening on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

In 2021, Powerball added a third weekly drawing on Mondays in order to help increase sales and interest in the game.

Drawings take place at 11 p.m. ET on each drawing day, and they are broadcasted from the Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

The largest jackpot in Powerball history was won in 2022. A California winner received $2.1 billion.

Powerball is currently playable in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The only states that don’t offer Powerball are:

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • Nevada
  • Utah

Here are the results of the last three Powerball drawings.

Monday, August 21:

  • White balls: 3, 4, 12, 22, 28
  • Powerball: 16
  • Power Play: 2x

Saturday, August 19:

  • White balls: 1, 25, 27, 38, 62
  • Powerball: 13

Wednesday, August 16:

  • Powerball: 1

Powerball and other lottery games all have one thing in common: they’re games of chance. This means you can never guarantee a win. There’s no special tip that can give you an edge. However, keeping a few strategies in mind can make your experience more fun.

At its core, Powerball is a game. Picking numbers is the best part about Powerball, and you can use various methods to spice things up. Text six friends and have them each pick a number. Roll dice to determine your picks. Use birthdays, anniversaries, or important dates to choose. Flip to random pages of a book and use the page numbers to select your picks.

There are hundreds of ways to make Powerball interesting.

You might see some people claim that certain numbers are hot or cold. Hot numbers are those that have been drawn a lot recently, while cold numbers haven’t come up in a while.

Every single drawing has the same odds of pulling a given number. While hot and cold numbers may seem like a helpful way to win, they don’t increase your odds at all.

Does this mean you can’t pick cold numbers or that it’s taboo to select hot ones? Not at all. Instead, remember that these trends don’t have an actual bearing on the results.

Winning the Powerball jackpot is the dream of any lottery player, but the odds are incredibly low: 1 in 292,201,338, to be exact.

However, the jackpot isn’t the only prize. Matching fewer balls still wins you something. For example, matching five white balls gives a $1 million prize, and the odds are 1 in 11,688,054.

The odds of matching just the Powerball are 1 in 39, and that awards $4 (the smallest prize available in Powerball drawings).

You can buy tickets at a retail store; there are hundreds of partnered vendors throughout Michigan.

Once you have an account, you can connect a payment method and buy your tickets from the Michigan Lottery app or desktop site. It’s hard to beat the convenience of playing from your phone, especially when a drawing is fast approaching and you can’t make it to a grocery store or gas station to buy entries in person.

Power Play and Double Play are both $1 add-ons to Powerball tickets.

Power Play multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 5x, while Double Play is a second-chance drawing that takes place about 30 minutes after each core Powerball drawing. Double Play offers prizes up to $10 million.

Powerball is one of hundreds of games available from the Michigan Lottery. You can play all sorts of titles, including other draw games such as Lucky for Life or Mega Millions. There’s also Keno and a whole bunch of instant tickets. If you like Powerball, you’ll probably like some of the other games offered.
