It’s been weeks now since the Powerball jackpot last hit. That means the current jackpot is steadily climbing. Right now, it sits at $345 million.

The next drawing is today, Saturday, August 26 at 11 p.m. ET. Tickets for the drawing will be sold until approximately 15 minutes before.

If you can count to 69, you’re primed and ready to play Powerball. It’s very easy, but it does help to have a basic understanding of the game.

Each entry in the Powerball is called a line. Lines cost $2 each.

Powerball requires players to pick six numbers. Five of those digits are white ball numbers between 1 and 69. No repeats are allowed (for example, you couldn’t pick “9″ twice). The sixth number is the red Powerball, a number between 1 and 26.

Matching all five white balls and the red Powerball wins you the jackpot. However, you can still win by matching fewer numbers. For example, matching 5 white balls without matching the Powerball earns you a cool $1 million, while the base prize for matching 4 white balls and the Powerball is $50,000.

For an extra $1 per line, you can add Power Play. Power Play multiplies prizes (except for the jackpot) by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x. The 10x multiplier is only available when the advertised jackpot is less than $150,000,000, so it currently doesn’t apply.

Say you win the 50,000 prize for matching four white balls and the Powerball, but you selected Power Play and the multiplier is 3x. Your prize would jump to $150,000.

Finally, there’s the Double Play option. This add-on is available in-store only for an extra $1 per panel. Double Play enters your numbers into a second-chance drawing that occurs about 40 minutes after the core Powerball drawing. The top prize in the Double Play drawing is $10,000,000.

The major advantage of playing Powerball online is the ease and convenience. You can buy tickets straight from the Michigan Lottery mobile app or website. Purchase options make things even easier.

Easy Pick lets you buy 3 tickets for $6, 5 tickets for $10, or 10 tickets for $20. Easy Pick will randomly generate your numbers with one click or tap, so you don’t have to manually select them.

Of course, you can always pick your numbers manually if you choose.

The Combo My Numbers option lets you pick 6-10 digits, then generates tickets using different combinations of those numbers.

Finally, you can save favorite purchases for future use and repeat them for later drawings.

Playing Powerball at a partnered vendor or retail location has its own distinct advantages. First, some players prefer the pen-and-paper approach, and we don’t blame them. It’s fun to fill out your numbers on your own.

The second big advantage is the availability of Double Play, which you can’t get via online play.

To buy tickets in-store, find a participating Michigan Lottery seller. Many grocery stores, gas stations, and convenience stores fit the bill. As for a play slip and fill it out with your numbers, Power Play (if you want to do Power Play, that is), and return it to the cashier or scan it via the machine.

You’ll get a printed ticket with your numbers on it. We recommend you sign the ticket immediately and then store it in a safe place when you get home.
