The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, led to a 14-month slump in Las Vegas gaming revenue and visitor count. Las Las was already a pioneer in the use of facial recognition and video surveillance in 2001. The national concern for safety that arose after the attacks led the improved tools. It pushed technology providers outside of Las. Vegas faster, and therefore made technologies available.
