Support Grows to Save a Las Vegas Strip Icon Set for Demolition. MGM Resorts International has sold The Mirage to Hard Rock International for $1.075 billion. Hard Rancher plans to build a Guitar Hotel on the grounds of the Mirage. To do that, it is expected to shut down and remove the iconic Mirage Volcano.  Some people want to stop it. They are taking steps to prevent the demolition. The transaction has not closed.

There is a long-shot effort to save the Mirage Volcano. Alan Feldman, a distinguished fellow at UNLV’s International Gaming Institute, believes that Las Vegas is built on change and reinventing itself.

The Mirage Volcano is being demolished. A Change.org petition has been started to save the attraction. It has already been signed by over 6,000 people. The petition is also trying to get the site designated a historical landmark. Las Vegas is not fond of historic buildings.
