Las Vegas casinos can learn about reopening from Macao

Macao casinos reopened after a 15-day shutdown due to the coronavirus. The casinos in Las Vegas will remain dark until April 30. Macao's experience may hint at what is to come for Las Nevada. In China, there is a recovery of domestic tourism. A recent poll details the impact the virus could have on leisure activities once the COVID-19 curve has flattened. It could take two to three months for Americans to attend large social gatherings. Only about a fifth of respondents would host a larger social gathering. In a poll, only about 20 percent would stay in a hotel.
The NFL season starts in September. Las Vegas Sands will probably discuss operational changes during the earnings conference call Wednesday. MGM Resorts has scheduled its earnings call for April 30. Caesars Entertainment Corp. doesn't expect an immediate return to normal business conditions. Wynn Resort will screen guests at all resort entrances. The company has adopted the same safety precautions adopted in Macao.
