The Barrie Legion's latest fundraising effort has another winner, while there is still more money up for grabs.

The Barrie Catch the Ace jackpot has now risen to an estimated $19,000 with a draw on Nov. 2 at the legion's Branch 147 on St. Vincent Street.

Last week, participant Chuck Hockley won a $1,289 weekly prize but didn't find the ace of spades when he drew envelope 25, the 8th draw thus far.

This progressive draw involves participants purchasing a ticket at $5 a pop, then indicating which of the 52 envelopes they believe the ace of spades can be found to win the progressive jackpot.

Each week, a ticket is drawn at the legion and the indicated envelope is opened. The weekly winning ticket is 20 per cent of total weekly sales, while the progressive jackpot is the cumulative total of 30 per cent of all ticket sales.

The draw takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets can be purchased online at barriecatchetheace.ca until 3 p.m. that day or in person at Branch 147 until 5 p.m.

Over the past five years, the competition has been held, the Barrie Catch the Ace lottery has dolled out more than $450,000 in winnings, with the same amount donated to local charities.
