The latest winner of the Townsend Smith Hospice Foundations (TSHF) Catch the Ace progressive 50/50 raffle is Liz Kogan. The longtime volunteer won the money with a group of friends known as the ‘The Super S Team’. Kogan pulled the eight of spade to win $120. Here’s a rundown of how the raffle works:

  • Participants purchase tickets which correspond with a numbered envelope.
  • Each envelope holds a card from a standard deck of playing cards.
  • Each week a name will be pulled from the draw, the name drawn is the weekly winner, who wins 20% of the ticket sales that week!
  • They will also be invited to reveal what playing card is inside their envelope.
  • If it is the Ace of Spades, they will also win an additional 30% of the total ticket sales (the jackpot)!
  • If that card is not the Ace of Spades, that card will be removed from play and that 30% of the ticket sales gets rolled over into the next week.
  • This process repeats until the Ace of Spades is found!
  • The remaining 50% of the overall ticket sales goes to the TSHF.

The fundraiser coordinator for the Townsend Smith Foundation, Mallory Crippen, says Kogan will be putting her winnings back in the pot.

Congratulations to the Super "S" Team! They won week 5 of Catch the Ace, winning $120 with the 8 of spades! The Ace of…

The jackpot is sitting at an even $2500. That’s thanks to sponsors Laurie Day and Liane LaBarbera of IG Wealth Management. The jackpot will increase once the donations surpass the flat rate. Crippen thinks that could be in the coming weeks.

Crippen explains why having a hospice in the North Halton area is so important.

On May 7th, the TSHF is planning on holding its Hike for Hospice event. Crippen says that things are dependent on restrictions at the moment. The government appears to be in the process of lifting most, if not all, restrictions; however, with two months to go, that could always change. She says to keep May 7th in your calendars until more information can be released. Hear about last year’s event here.

The Foundation feels the community would be better served by having palliative and respite care available in either Milton or Halton Hills.

This is the third go around for the Catch the Ace draw for Townsend Smith. Last year’s draw was won by a group known as the She-Beasts who workout out of Milton’s FirePower CrossFit gym. They won a collective $27,941. You can read about their win here.

The next draw will be Friday, March 25th at 12:00 p.m.. To participate and buy your tickets, click here.
