Ron DeSantis' new gaming compact was struck down in federal court in November. The main area of controversy surrounded sports betting. It doesn't take a leap to see how this could pave the way to online casino gaming.
Online gambling is big business in a growing number of states. New Jersey legalized it in 2018. 15 states have legalized online sports books. Online casinos are not allowed to operate in Florida. Florida will see zero tax revenue from the new compact. It benefits nobody. It gives a clue as to why Governor DeSantis was eager to push the compact through.
The next hearing on the appeal against the federal decision last November will take place in April. The appeals court will decide whether the case can be heard or dismissed for lack of jurisdiction.
