NEWBURG, Md. – A happy Virginia woman is having a fabulous 2024, due in part to winning a $41,780 progressive jackpot in the FAST PLAY Gold Fish® game.

Her doctor is in Maryland so the Lottery player visits our state frequently. Last week, she and her husband stopped at Hardesty’s Liquors located at 12190 Crain Highway in Newburg. The player, who nicknamed her win “2024 Better,” had been eyeing the FAST PLAY Gold Fish ticket ever since its progressive jackpot reached $20,000. She decided to try her luck with three $2 tickets.

The FAST PLAY fan was disappointed, at first, as her tickets were dispensed face up and she saw with a quick glance that the first two were non-winners. However, she did more than just glance at the last ticket.

“I just kept glaring at the ticket,” the lucky lady said, realizing she matched three frog symbols for the progressive jackpot win. “I couldn’t settle myself down, I had trouble breathing.” She shared the news with her husband of 42 years and a friend, who also shares her affinity for the Gold Fish game.

The winner is a retired federal government statistician. She plans to use her winnings to pay off medical bills.

Her lucky retailer, Hardesty’s Liquors, also benefits from its sale of the winning ticket. The Charles County business received a $417 bonus from the Lottery for selling the progressive jackpot-winning FAST PLAY ticket. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
