United Kingdom to look at new problem gambling protection

Information Commissioner's Office advises government to introduce a 'single customer view' solution to help prevent problem gambling. Online and land-based gaming operators would share information to prevent customers from losing money.

Information Commissioner's Office asked to look into the legality of rolling out some form of ‘single customer view’ system as part of a government-led review into current land-based and online gaming landscape. Gambling Commission gathered together more than 100 industry experts for a two-day conference early last year.

Tim Miller heads a Gambling Commission team that works towards developing policies and strategies for the reduction of problem gambling. He is pleased that the Information Commissioner’s Office has provided an assurance that data protection requirements don't need to be a barrier to making progress.

Chris Philp is the government minister charged with overseeing the review into the British gambling industry. He is also the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Digital Infrastructure at the Department for digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
