The upcoming ‘white paper’ review of the nation's gambling laws will look to target online casino and slot games. Chris Philp, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Tech and the Digital Economy, said this during a committee meeting of Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Philp, a Member of Parliament for Croydon South, is concerned about the future of online gambling in the UK. He is worried about online casinos and slot games. The National Lottery is the most popular form of gambling with about 30% participation rate. The government is preparing a white paper on the issue.

Philp is concerned about gambling harms associated with draw-based lottery games. Health survey for England suggests overall addiction rates stood at about 0.9%. The ratio for instant-win scratchcards was roughly 1.4%.

Phil told DCMS committee that the National Lottery was the most lucrative form of gambling in terms of ‘gross yield’ and accounted for one-quarter to one third of all British gambling receipts.
