The UK's Gambling Commission has published its latest statistics concerning the state of the gambling industry. The data shows that the retail sector is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic but the online vertical continues to be more popular.

UKGC studied the changes in the gambling landscape. COVID-19 affected the sector in other ways. The pandemic narrowed the gender gap as many men restricted their participation. Some people have begun returning to retail gambling. Online gambling continues to grow.

18% of adults in the country played online in September. This is a huge change from five years ago when people playing in person outnumbered online players two to one. Online gambling’s rise to dominance was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The share of GGY generated by online gambling increased from 42% in 2015-16 to 61% in 2021-22.

Online gambling has revolutionized gaming. It allows more content to be delivered to the market in shorter amounts of time. Mobile gaming has allowed people to play anywhere at any time, but it also exposes vulnerable players to harm. UKGC studied the changes in the gambling landscape.
