The city council approved a plan to offer Chicago's sole casino license to Bally's Corporation. Brian Hopkins, Anthony Beale, Ed Burke, Ray Lopez, Byron Sigcho-Lopez, Brendan Reilly, and Michele Smith voted against the proposal. Sophia King recused herself from the vote. The proposal will now go to the Illinois Gaming Board for approval. If approved, the new casino-resort and entertainment complex will be constructed at the Chicago Tribune’s Publishing Center in the River West neighborhood. Construction is expected to be completed in 2025. Baly's plans to operate a temporary casino at Medinah Temple in River North neighborhood in meantime.
