Bingo is expected to resume in Rathdrum in October, it has been confirmed.

he Rathdrum Development Association (RDA)’s weekly games on a Friday night in the RDA Hall have been on hold since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, changes to the public health guidelines will allow some indoor events, including bingo, to resume.

Seamus O’Toole, chair of the RDA, said the committee would meet shortly to finalise their plans, but he expects the Friday night games will resume during October. The weekly games helped to cover the costs associated with the upkeep of the RDA Hall and the Rathdrum Memorial Park.

Mr O’Toole said there had been nothing held in the hall since March 2020.

While many bingo games moved online, the RDA concluded this would not suit their players and decided to wait for the return of indoor events. The local group arranged an outdoor game of bingo beside the RDA Hall in August, however, this could not go ahead due to bad weather.

The committee and the bingo players are all looking forward to getting back.

"People are stopping me all the time to ask when the game is back,” Mr O’Toole added.
