Mullingar Rugby Football Club have announced that bingo will return to the clubhouse from Wednesday September 22.

The club have had a successful online bingo in place since August 2020. They are delighted with the valued funds raised so far, which will facilitate upgrades to the clubhouse and pitches.

Bingo runs twice a week, on Wednesday and Sunday at 7.30pm – doors open from 7pm and play should finish around 10pm. The current jackpot was €6100 (at time of writing). The club have a 12-page book which includes a Gamble Game and a jackpot sheet, and they will continue to facilitate all the online players that have supported them over the last year via Zoom.

With Zoom there are no delays and online players hear numbers at the same time as club players as if right there in the room with them.

Players can continue to purchase online at www.mrfcbingo.com and print their sheets at home, or have them posted out, or they can collect them in Rochforts and in the clubhouse on the day of play. Double and single books cost from €13 to €23, depending on whether they have them sent by email, post or collect.

Minimum prize money for regular games is €20, €20, €80 per panel – however, ‘the more that play, the more we pay!’, so depending on numbers online and in the hall, those figures can rise.

The jackpot game pays out €20, €30, and €200, if 44 calls are exceeded. The Gamble game pays out what the player checks on, so if you check on 90, you win €90, if you check on any number between 1 and 20, you win €20, and figures are rounded off to the closest five (for example, if you check on 43, you win €45).

The Last Player Standing Games are popular: one is a free entry for the first 90 people to purchase online, the last two players left standing after the caller has called 88 numbers in quick succession win a free book for second place and last person left standing wins €100.

Players are allocated a random number between 1 and 90 prior to play. The last player standing numbers are purchased online and cost €5 each. The first number drawn out wins a free book and the top five players left standing, from first to fifth, win €200, €120, €70, €40, and €20.

These tickets fly out each night; it’s a quick no marking game and takes about three minutes. The excitement is tangible among the players, who are expected – for the fun of it! – to stand up during the game and if they hear their number, they are out of play and can sit down.

A smaller scale of that game will run for the clubhouse players each night, called the ‘90 ticket Bonus Draw’.

The clubhouse is warm and comfortable, and during the short break, players can avail of tea coffee and snacks at the shop.

For the moment, players will have to be vaccinated and produce vaccination certs – however, if the planned government restrictions are all lifted in October, everyone else will be welcome back.

Jane Slevin, the bingo caller, said: “We know how much players who couldn’t play online with us have missed their weekly sessions, so we look forward to seeing you all there.” Further information via the bingo phone on 085 1585 753.
