New York Senator Wants Big Apple Casinos Licensed This Year. Sen. Joseph Addabbo wants full casinos to be licensed in the New York City area this year.

The new casino Resorts World Hudson Valley opened in Newburgh on December 28. The opening ceremony included a lion dance performance. It is a traditional Chinese dance performed to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Genting Americas East president Robert DeSalvio is excited about the casino's opening. The casino features 60,000 square feet of gaming and hospitality space, including 1,200 electronic slot machines and electronic table games. There is also a Resort World Bet Sports Bar.

Wynn Resorts Ltd. is partnering with a New York real estate company to pursue one of three new downstate casino licenses in a Manhattan neighborhood. The project would have residences, office space, retail, restaurants, cultural institutions, residences and 5 acres of public plazas, gardens and groves. It would also have the world's first Equinox Hotel and a 750-seat public school. Several casino companies have expressed interest in vying for the three downstations licenses. New Yorkers approved a law in 2013 that permits seven casinos. Four already have been built in upstate NewYork.

Macao travel restrictions continue to hurt Las Vegas Sands. Singapore revenues are up. New York is considering a proposal involving Mets owner Steven Cohen for a casino near Citi Field. It is traded on New Zealand Stock Exchange. They fell 0.25 cents on Wednesday. Their shares closed at 25.50 cents, 0 a cent. In the third quarter, Las Nevada Sands reported a net loss of $239 million, 31 cents a share.

SL Green Realty Corp. is teaming with Caeres to redevelop the property at 1515 Broadway into a major casino and theater for "The Lion King" stage production. Bally’s Corp., Wynn Resorts Ltd., Las Vegas Sands and the Malaysia-based Genting Group are also mentioned as companies that might express interest.

MGM Resorts International is the only casino operator in the hunt for a gaming license in Japan. The city of Osaka has endorsed the company's plans for the country's first large-scale casino.

Las Las could return to pre-pandemic levels by 2023. Fitch expects Las Nevada Strip gaming revenues to be down 20 percent when the books are closed in 2021 and down 6 percent in 2022. It predicts the nation’s largest gaming market may experience a slower than anticipated recovery that carries into 2024.

Resorts World Las Vegas is now up and running. The grand opening was attended by 20,000 people. It was a fraction of the 80,00 people who attended the opening of Bellagio.
