Media tycoon MGM is reportedly set to purchase tickets for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix worth $25 million.

The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix is one of the most highly anticipated races set for next year. The date of the race is under a lot of speculation online. Twitter reports began to show a leaked letter from the organisers suggested the race could take place between the 16th-18th November 2023. Twitter reports began to show a leaked letter from the organisers suggested the race could take place between the 16th-18th November 2023.

One of the biggest discussions around the date is whether or not it will replace Abu Dhabi as the season finale. The 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix amassed a viewership of 108.7 million. It’s a guarantee that the viewership of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix will be high too. But how many people will be watching in person? With the reports of ticket prices emerging, the figure is up for debate…

MGM’s plan for Las Vegas

GPFans.com have reported that MGM are proposing to purchase $25 million worth of tickets for the new American race next year. MGM are the owners of several Las Vegas casinos, many of which will overlook the race circuit. According to the reports, MGM will then sell ticket-and-hotel bundle packages for fans to purchase. Unless you have a spare £100,000 laying around, you may not be in the market for the packages. Fans believe that the ticket prices for the Las Vegas Grand Prix are going to be expensive, but the rumoured costs are leaving fans with a lot to say.

Many Twitter users have complained about the prices. One user said:

“I could fly from the USA to Europe and back to go to a race and it would still probably be 2x cheaper than going to a race in Miami or Vegas”

Formula One in America

While there’s no confirmation on whether or no MGM will do this, the rumours have made fans question Formula One’s accessibility. £100,000 is an eye-watering price to pay, and not every Formula One fan has that kind of money.

Formula One’s success in America has sky-rocketed. Because of Drive to Survive and the 2022 Miami Grand Prix, America has a new found love for the sport. Yet many fans seem to feel that America is capitalising on the sport. They think that the Las Vegas Grand Prix is an example of this.

Of course, it’s great that the sport is expanding. The only issue is whether fans can afford to go to the new races. Unless the rumours are confirmed, fans will have to hope that the prices of the tickets are accessible so that everyone can enjoy the race.
