If caught gambling online, you could be prosecuted under this act.

TN governor approves an ordinance banning online gambling in state. The All India Gaming Federation urges the government to reconsider the ordinance. The penalty for a person violating the new rules and for someone advertising is imprisonment and a fine. For an online gaming service provider, the punishment is up to three years and up to ₹10 lakh. It stipulates appointing the Tamil Nadu Gaming Authority of five members. They include a retired high ranking police officer, an expert in the field of information technology, and an eminent psychologist. A previous version of this article stated that the All Indian Gaming federation urged the state government not to change the law. In fact, it urged them to reverse the existing law and to consider a new law that would be more in line with the current legal jurisprudence.

The social security cell of Pune city police raided three online gambling dens allegedly being run under the garb of lottery shops and video gaming centres in the Kondhwa area. 16 people were arrested. The police are looking for a dozen more suspects. The shops were licensed for the sale of state-authorised lottery tickets and also as video games centres. They were operating behind curtains at the main entrance. People were placing bets on specific numbers. Their bets were recorded using computer or phone-based gambling applications. Police invoked the Information Technology Act and the Maharashtra Prohibition of Gambling Act.

The Constitution of India gives some consideration to gambling under the heading "Online Gambling". Online gambling is held in a virtual environment. It covers playing poker, gambling at casinos and betting on sports.

Players were invited through WhatsApp chats for placing illegal bets through PP poker. They were paid 5 to 10 per cent commission. The settlement of the commission and the betting amount was done illegally through hawala operators in cash or through anonymous crypto accounts.

Delhi High Court issues notice to the Government of India and the Delhi Government on a petition to regulate online gaming. The case has been scheduled for hearing on November 16. It is also scheduled to hear Writ Petition 9436/2020. The petition asks for a writ of mandamus to take the required steps to construct a regulatory body to govern online games. Also, it demands appropriate action against Cricket Millionaire Pvt. Ltd. which allegedly promotes gambling through games such as Cricket millionaire.

He said the due process specified in the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009, is followed to block the apps.

Karnataka High Court will hear a batch of petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Act 2021 on Wednesday. The petition was filed by the ALL INDIA GAMING FEDERATION. It claims the Act has affected the fundamental right of freedom of petitioners to practise any profession or to carry on any trade or business. The Madras High court has recently struck down an amendment made in the Tamil Nadu Gaming and Police Laws (amendment), 2021. According to the petition, the amendment has imposed a blanket ban on all forms of game of skill involving wagering and betting.

The new law prescribes a three-year jail term for gambling instead of one year and a fine of up to Rs one lakh.

The government has tabled a bill that seeks to ban online gambling in Karnataka. The bill proposes a maximum three-year jail term and a fine of up to one-lakhs for the first offence. Lotteries or betting on horse races is not included in the bill. i.e. the use of cyberspace in a gambling process will be considered. It will include computers, computer system, mobile app, or internet or cyber space. i .e., virtual platform, network, etc. in gambling. In the Information Technology Act, 2000, it is defined as the process of gambling through internet and mobile apps.

The State Government on Friday, (September 17), tabled in the State Legislative Assembly a bill to amend the Karnataka Police Act 1963. It aims to ban online gambling and betting and provide maximum imprisonment of three years and penalty upto Rs 1 lakh for violation of the provisions.

It does not include lottery or wagering or betting on horse races. The first offence would be six months imprisonment and fine. for the second offence, one year imprisonment, and a fine up of Rs 15,000. For the third offence the punishment would extend to 18 months and Rs 20,00. People aiding or abetting such online gaming would also be punished.

The Centre has told the Delhi High Court that MeitY cannot be saddled with the duty to regulate online gambling websites or lotteries. The issue falls within the domain of State subjects. The petition seeks to ban gambling/gaming websites and lotters in India. It also seeks quashing of the order dated October 21, 2020. In a counter affidavit filed by the Government, it is claimed that the petitioner has failed to implead States as parties to the case.
