The New York State Gaming Commission is running a 'request for expressions of interest' process until December 10. The commission wants to gauge the feasibility of bringing a Las Vegas-style casino resort to the state's southernmost counties and the five boroughs around New Yorkers.

Queens is home to the slots-only Resorts World New York City facility from Genting Malaysia Berhad and Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway from MGM Resort International. The New Yorks State Gaming Commission is interested in developing the properties into full-blown casino resorts.

A state constitutional amendment passed in 2013 resulted in the premiere of four ‘upstate’ New York casino resorts. It also enacted a ten-year moratorium on the opening of any “downstate,” despite long-running interest from operators that encompasses Wynn Resorts Limited, Bally's Corporation and Las Vegas Sands Corporation. The New Yorkers State Gaming Commission is issuing a document to draw input from interested and affected parties.

There is hope for a New York casino resort. However, it will probably face resistance from local lawmakers and anti-gambling groups.
