Former Johnston County Business Operator Indicted For Gambling, Operating Slot Machines

CLAYTON – A Johnston County Grand Jury has indicted the operator of a former Clayton business. David Leigh Eilers, age 49, of Rocky Mount was named in a three count criminal indictment.

Eilers was indicted for misdemeanor gambling, misdemeanor operate/possess a slot machine, and felony operate five or more video gaming machines.

Eilers reportedly operated Computer Time on US Highway 70 West in Clayton. Clayton Police conducted a search warrant at the business on March 30, 2022. Police Chief Greg Tart said the business was originally opened to be a computer sales and service company but police learning it was not operating in that capacity.

After receiving complaints, police conducted an investigation that led to the search warrant. Police seized 60 gaming and slot machines, two ATM’s, over $48,000 in cash, and two firearms. The business is now shut down.

The Johnston County District Attorney’s Office and Smithfield Police assisted Clayton Police with the investigation.
