Germany's gambling regulator approved close to 50 gambling licences. Only 25 providers have been added to the official white list of operators licensed in Germany. The GGL took over all gambling regulatory tasks from 1 January 2023. It has also approved almost 600 of the 3,500 individual game permit applications for both online slot games and poker.

The administration office of the German state Saxony-Anhalt has given an online slot machine license to state-owned land-based casino operator Sächsische Spielbanken.

Burkhard Blienert, the Federal government commissioner for addiction and drug issues, critiqued the rise in gambling ads. He recommends that there should be no more sports betting advertising before 9pm on the TV or on internet. The news comes in the wake of the regime created by country’s fourth state treaty on gambling.

Six of the ten brands allowed to operate in Germany are connected to the Gauselmann Group. The German legal online casino market traces its origins to a new law passed in July 2021. Only seven slot operators and zero online poker businesses have been licensed since the launch of this market. Sports betting association, the Deutsche Sportwettenverband (DSWV), has criticized the tight regulations. It is calling for more activity on the part of state supervisory authorities. In June, when only four operators had received licences, Sachsen-Anhalt State Administration Office said that nine more online slot and poker licences were to be approved.

Germany is expanding the number of licenses for slot machine operators from three to five. Mernov has been renamed to Deutsche Gesellschaft für Glücksspiel (DGGS), Tipwin and Mybet.

The Mill Adventure will receive a licence to offer slots on its Slotmagie website. Merkur is licensed for three sites: Xtip, Merks Sports and Merckur Spiel. The Glücksspielbehörde took over enforcement of penalties against unlicensed online operators on 1 July. It implemented its first IP blocking order against lottery betting operator Lottoland last month.

Tipwin and Mybet obtained licenses in Germany for slot machine games on June 23.

Tipwin and Mybet are allowed to offer online slots in Germany. They join Mernov, which is associated with the Gauselmann Group, as the only licensees. The Fourth State Treaty on Gambling came into effect in July 2021. It has a number of conditions, including a €1 stake limit for slots and a 5.3% of turnover in tax. Danish gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden reported Tipwin to the police for violating the country’s Money Laundering Act.

Sachsen-Anhalt has published its whitelist of licensed operators under the country's Fourth State Treaty on Gambling. The list includes 35 licensees for online sports betting, but no license for slots, table games or poker. Online casino games were permitted in the state treaty (GlüNeuRStv) came into effect on 1 July this year. However, the treaty came with a number of restrictions, including a €1000 per month spending cap and a€1 per spin stake cap on slot games.

The Interstate Treaty on Gambling came into force on July 1. Online gambling is set to be legalized across the nation. Deposit and betting limits will be tightened, and some heavy alterations to advertising conditions and tax policies will also be made.

The New State Treaty on Gambling came into force yesterday in Germany. It allows licensed operators to offer a range of online poker and video slot games. The legislation was years in the making and was ratified in April.
