The share of gross gaming revenues from VIP baccarat players in Macau has decreased by 16.4% year-on-year to just over $737.7 million. The fall is largely blamed on a range of new cross-border travel restrictions recently put in place to help counter the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Third-quarter VIP baccarat receipts tumble in Macau. Macao's gross gaming revenues declined 26.1% quarter-on-quarters to just slightly beyond $2.3 billion.

The third quarter saw a decline in the amount of money brought in by the game of baccarat. It accounted for 33.7% of all casino table gaming revenues and 31.5% in aggregated gambling receipts.

Takings from mass-market baccarat accounted for 66.3% of Macau's third-quarter casino table gaming revenues. However, quarterly mass market earnings were down 56.4% quarter-on-quarters and 67.8% compared with the same period in 2019.

Macau's gross gaming revenues for September fell by 43.7% from the $1.3 billion high seen in May to $733 million. The fall was due to the Chinese government's decision to reintroduce a two-week quarantine requirement after Macau had experienced a small outbreak of the ‘delta variant’ of coronavirus.
