All land-based video slots in Macau will have to have an on-screen clock as standard by the conclusion of 2024. The directive is contained in the new Electronic Gaming Machine Technical Standards 2.0 regulations.

New rules require all slots in Macau to have a digital clock at the bottom right-hand corner of their main screens.

New regulations prohibit new Macau slots from using hidden buttons or clandestine touch points. The regulation was developed after taking into account recent advances in touchscreen technologies.

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau is running a grace period to give operators behind Macau's 41 casinos and game suppliers time to implement the new clock directive and retrofit any existing machines. Any slots in use come January of 2025 must be in full compliance with the fresh regulations.

The clock compulsion for Macau slots was added as part of a drive to promote responsible gambling practices. All machines will need to be retrofitted with the clock by the end of the year 2024.
