Sweden is bringing back online gaming restrictions. The restrictions were introduced during the first wave of COVID-19. Spelinspektionen, the country's gaming regulator, believes the measures are needed to combat a rise in online gambling during this pandemic.

Temporary restrictions are being reintroduced to Sweden’s online gambling as the government and the Swedish Gabbling Inspectorate are concerned about the spread of the COVID-19 omicron variant. The restrictions will last for at least four months.

Shekarabi has been criticized for his decisions. The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling has also been vocal. On November 14, last year, the temporary gambling restrictions were lifted. Spelinspektionen is still evaluating the online gaming safeguards.
