The Swedish Ministry of Finance launched a consultation on a new measure to limit weekly online casino deposits to SEK4,000 ($440.49) from SEk1,00 ($110.39) as the previous limit was lifted in November. The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) opposes the proposal.

BOS is critical of the proposed limit. The government claims it is necessary to protect vulnerable players. It will start February 7 and last until June 30.

The government wants to introduce a new SEK5,000 ($548.76) deposit cap for online casinos between July 2 2020 and November 14 2021. BOS opposes the proposal.

BOS is against the government's proposal to introduce deposit limits in online casinos. BOS claims the increase in the number of accounts has led to a loss of the statutory duty of care. Bos urges the Swedish government to safeguard consumer protection in gaming market.

BOS has condemned Shekarabi's beliefs before. In June 2021, the online trade body declared the minister’s claim that online gambling increased during the pandemic as “unfounded” The government gave the country's gambling regulator a deadline of March 15 2022 to report back on the effectiveness of the temporary deposit limits. The regulator has until October 31 2023 to submit a report suggesting potential new measures.
