According to research from Omnico Group, 77% of players are reluctant to visit casinos even if they reopen in 2021.

Due to the threat of coronavirus spreading during the COVID-19 pandemic, one in four said they would not visit at all in 2021.

A sample size of over 4,000 UK and US consumers was contacted, although it must be noted this only included less than 900 casino-goers.

However, the research suggested opinions among players changed when provided with different scenarios.

For instance, casino visitors were far keener to return if the right technology and safety measures were in place.

A total of 54% of players said the right health and safety technology would encourage them to visit again.Overall, 86% said they would research a casino's COVID-19 safety measures before booking, with 61% saying they would visit elsewhere if these standards did not meet their expectations.A standout point, meanwhile, was that 28% said they will only visit casinos that offer a contactless customer experience. Many casinos across the world currently find themselves closed during coronavirus lockdowns, although some remain open across different jurisdictions with COVID-19-related restrictions in place. As such, land-based revenue took a nosedive in 2020 and 2021 revenue looks set to either follow the trend, or produce just a portion of 2019 revenue figures.
