Sands China Embraces the End of the VIP Salons in Macau Casinos. New Gambling Legislation for Macao has been passed. It has already made possible the imprisonment of two prominent junket executives. The new law on gaming in the Maca has effectively banned junkets from accepting deposits from players. The bill of "Legal Framework for Operating Games of Chance in Casino" has also been called "the junken law".
Sands China is discontinuing the VIP rooms at its Macau properties. Las Vegas Sands executives welcome the change as it will focus the business on higher margins and bring more profits. COO Grant Chum sees an evolving market in Macao and the salons as valuable assets that could be used by a wider segment of gamblers.
