Richmond voters are on the verge of voting down One Casino and Resort. The referendum is losing by 2,225 votes. If the final precinct votes in favor, the casino will be built. It will cost $563 million and be the state's fifth and most expensive retail casino.
Richmond voters are on the verge of voting down One Casino and Resort. The project is the work of RVA Entertainment Holdings, a subsidiary of the media company Urban One.
Lawmakers approved five retail casinos in the state in 2020. Legislators approved online sports betting at that time. Each municipality needed to sign off on the projects. Last November, voters in Bristol, Danville, Norfolk and Portsmouth accepted the other four casinos. Yesterday, Richmond voters decided the fate of One Casino and Resort.
Richmond has 142,460 active voters registered with the Virginia Department of Elections. Almost 80,000 of them voted on the question of casino construction. Glenn A. Youngkin was elected governor with 77.13% of the vote.
39,824 people voted against the casino gaming ballot measure.
The Virginia Lottery Board has not approved the casino gaming establishment in the City of Richmond, Virginia.
