Pennyslvania totaled over $464 million in January 2023 gaming revenue

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming along with fantasy contests during January 2023 was $464,488,191 an increase of 18.15% compared to revenue generated in January 2022.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and VGTs. The Board has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $188,321,533 during January 2023.

Slot machine revenue
January’s revenue from slot machines was $202,240,506, a 20.07% increase in revenue when compared to the $168,441,692 generated in January 2022.

The number of slot machines in operation in January 2023 was 25,799 compared to 26,158 at the casinos in January 2022.

Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in January of 2023 was $102,824,611.

Table games revenue
Table games revenue for January 2023 was $83,912,666, an increase of 7.27% from January 2022 when revenue was $78,227,708.

Total tax revenue from table games play during January 2023 was $13,669,118.

Internet casino-type gaming (iGaming) revenue
Casino games offered online generated gross revenue of $133,119,361 during January 2023 compared to $108,310,642 in January 2022 an increase of 22.91%.

Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during January 2023 was $55,564,346.

Sports wagering revenue
January 2023 total sports wagering handle was $772,289,648 or 2.70% below the January 2022 total of $793,722,787. At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for January 2023 was $39,250,402 or 22.01% above January 2022 when taxable revenue was $32,169,931.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during January 2023 was $14,130,145.

Video Gaming terminals
Total adjusted revenue for January 2023 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,347,366 or 7.92% higher than January 2022 when revenue was $3,101,765. By the close of January 2023, VGT Terminal Operators were operating the maximum permitted five machines at 66 qualified truck stop establishments compared to five machines at 60 establishments at this time last year.

Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in January 2023 was $1,740,630.

Fantasy contests
Fantasy Contests revenue was $2,617,891 in January 2023, a decrease of 9.49% over January 2022, when revenue was $2,892,349.

Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in January 2023 was $392,684.
