One in six Australians are expected to purchase a ticket in time for the Thursday night Powerball with the prize soaring to an eye-watering $60 million.

It’s the second time this year the Powerball jackpot has soared to $60 million – the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in 2022 to date.

In the first week of this year, a Brisbane man nabbed a $60 million prize.

The Queenslander, aged in his 30s, revealed he would take a lot of holidays and buy his first house – but he would still keep working in his current job.

Since his win, the Powerball went back to base and it has continued to climb to Thursday night’s $60 million, after five weeks in a row of nobody picking the right numbers.

Now there’s a chance for other Aussies to win the life-changing windfall.

The Lott has revealed the factors that worked for previous division one winners who scored a multimillion dollar prize.

To win Powerball’s division one prize, you need to have all seven winning numbers (drawn from the main barrel of 35 numbers) plus the Powerball (drawn from the Powerball barrel of 20 numbers) in a single game panel.

From the main barrel, the most frequently drawn winning numbers are 17, 9, 11 and 25. The least frequently drawn winning numbers are 6, 31, 15 and 33.

For the separate Powerball barrel, the most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball number is 18.

Ten of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly generated the numbers on the ticket.

The remaining four entries featured numbers selected by the winner.

Almost two-thirds of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were purchased from a licenced lottery outlet. The remainder was purchased online.

Two of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were syndicates, or group entries, where people worked together to purchase a bigger entry that gave them more chances of winning. When the syndicate wins, the prize is shared among all syndicate members. Last year, a Townsville syndicate scored a $60 million Powerball prize in July, while a 55-strong group from Western Australia shared an $80 million jackpot in December.

Last year, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $550 million in prize money.

Of these wins, seven landed in NSW, four in Queensland, two in Victoria and one in Western Australia
