New York City Casinos Could Be Ready Year From Licensing

Two New York City area resorts with slots could offer complete casino games within a year from licensing. The process to open an unestablished site could take 4 to 5 years.
Two limited casinos are operating in the New York area. One is Empire City, a MGM Resorts harness track in Yonkers, north of the Bronx, the other is Genting’s Resort World at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens.
Resorts World New York had the most gambling revenue of any casino property outside Nevada last year. An expansion into table games could boost its revenue even more.
New York State Legislature approved the licensing of three downstate casinos under a $220 billion state budget. The closest commercial casino to New York City is the Resorts World Catskills property, about 100 miles north of city.
Empire State leads the nation in sports betting. New York City officials want to add three casinos. New Jersey, Illinois and Nevada are the next highest states in that field.
