Casino gaming continues to produce big numbers in Nevada. The most recent report by the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported August revenue of $1.2 billion, a record for the month.

Growth may have slowed a bit overall, but that figure was still up about 1% for the same month a year ago. That total is down from July’s $1.4 billion, however, a record month overall for the state’s casino gaming industry.

Details On The Report

This marked the 30th straight month that Nevada casinos totaled $1 billion or more. Table games saw an increase of 3.2% to $380.1 million. Slot revenue saw a drop of 2.1% to $829.2 million.

Over the last three months, total gaming revenue reached almost $3.9 billion, an increase of 1.5%. For the last 12 months, that total is $15.2 billion, an increase of 3.9%.

Las Vegas Strip gaming revenue saw a 1% increase to $666.8 million after the area saw some major concert events for the month to bring in extra patrons. Table games saw revenue of $298.4 million, rising 7.1%. Slots drew revenue of $368.3 million, a drop of 3.4%.

Downtown Las Vegas saw revenues of $64 million, just under a 1% increase. Table games accounted for $16.2 million, an increase of 11.5 . Slots accounted for $47.9 million, up 3.4.

These August gaming revenue totals could have been higher, but Gaming Commission officials believe some weather-related issues actually kept the month’s growth down a bit. Hurricane Hilary caused numerous flights in the city to be canceled later in the month, which caused a decline in passenger totals at Harry Reid International Airport for the first time this year.

September numbers should be released in the coming weeks. With football season now underway and fans coming into town for some sports betting and casino play, it will be interesting to see how that month played out with gamblers.

The state remains on pace to beat 2022’s record revenue total of $14.8 billion, which was itself an increase of 10.5 percent over 2021. Nevada commercial casinos are subject to a state tax of 6.75 percent, which is directed to Nevada’s General Fund for statewide education programs and general needs.
