California state law has no exact definition of online gambling. The law in California does not provide any regulations for online casinos. There is no licensing regime for the online casino operators. Online casinos outside California are not regulated by the state. Native tribes have tried to launch online betting sites, but the courts have not allowed them. As an exception, gamblers in the California can bet on horse racing online. The bill to legalize online poker was introduced in 2016, it was opposed by horse races and by California State tribes. It was not taken up.

California has no fully-regulated online gambling industry. The only legal option for online betting is to bet on state horse races. Online poker and online casinos are currently unregulated. For a more immersive gambling experience, gamblers will have to cross state lines. Nevada is close to California.

There are efforts to legalize online gambling in California. There is no definite schedule for the legalization.
