Casinos' slots revenues were down in September

Slot-machine revenues were down at the casinos’ last month, with Mohegan Sun’s slots “win” falling by nearly 10% and Foxwoods Resort Casino’s tumbling by more than 20%.
Mohegan Sun reported Thursday that it kept $40.3 million after paying out prizes, a 9.7% decline from the $44.6 million it kept the previous September. Foxwoods kept $27.6 million last month, down 22.9% from the $35.9 million it kept the same month a year ago.
In August, Mohegan Sun was down nearly 9% while Foxwoods was down about 25%. The casinos partially reopened June 1 after shutting down for 11 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Mohegan Sun sent $10.1 million of its September slots revenue to the state. Foxwoods’ contribution was $6.9 million.
The casinos, which instituted such safety measures as temperature checks, mask mandates and sanitizing protocols, continue to limit the number of patrons they’re admitting at any one time.
“COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon, so we will continue to work with our chief medical officer and other local health officials to ensure we’re doing everything we can to keep our guests and team members safe,” Jason Guyot, Foxwoods’ interim chief executive officer, said in a news release. “We have been doubling down on safety since we first reopened on June 1, and that will remain our number one priority as we look to the next phase of our reopening process.”
