Downtown Las Vegas' El Cortez casino is celebrating 80 years of operation with a $25 million renovation and fireworks show on November 6th. The El cortez was built in 1941 and was owned by the Mob. Jackie Gaughan owned the hotel and casino for five decades and died in 2014. He was succeeded by his daughters. In 2008, he sold the property to his long-time friend, partner and gaming pioneer, Kenny Epstein.
