Seminole Tribe of Florida and Seminole Gaming broke ground today at the site of the future Seminoles Casino Hotel Brighton. The new hotel and entertainment complex will be built on the Brighton Seminolo Reservation, located northwest of Lake Okeechobee. It will replace the existing Seminol Brighton Casino, which first opened in 1980 and is located three miles north of site. The current Brighton casino makes a profit of $50,000,00 yearly. Seminoli Gaming operates six casinos in Florida, including two in Hollywood, Tampa, Immokalee, and Coconut Creek.

Department of Justice published new legislation on gambling this week. It will control gambling advertising and sports sponsorship. The legislation will also limit gambling by those under 25 and introduce mandatory deposit limits. There will be separate accounts for sports betting and the more addictive online casinos. The new law will not protect the under-25s. Prof Colin O'Gara questions the capacity of the proposed gambling regulator to manage the myriad issues caused by gambling. He believes the tougher the legislation, the less pressure there will need to be on support services. i.e. to tighten and make absolutely bulletproof the legal conditions under which the industry will trade.

Ireland's cabinet has approved the Gambling Regulation Bill. The new GRA will be led by Anne Marie Caulfield, who will act as its first Chief Executive. The European Gaming and Betting Association welcomes the Justice Committee's report on the Government's General Scheme of the Gambling Regulation Bill. The report includes recommendations for the government to consider in its final deliberations on Bill, presented last year. It recommends that incoming gambling authority should publish regular data about the country’s gambling market and that regulator-established codes of conduct should apply to all gambling operators. Ireland is currently one of two European Union countries without specific, dedicated regulations for online gambling.

The Committee of Justice recommends a ban on the showing of gambling marketing on television before 9 pm. The recommendation is far stricter than in the neighboring United Kingdom.

Betting is governed by the Betting Act 1931. The Bettering Act 2015 was amended by this Act.

Tom O'Brien was promoted to president of Aristocrat's Americas Division in February. O’Brien's predecessor, Hector Fernandez, was appointed CEO of the company's land-based gaming products and services division. Mitchell Bowen, who was CEO for the land based division, is now heading the group that is growing Aristocrats' online gaming segment. Senator Joe O'Reilly is calling for a Gambling Control Bill and a Regulator. He believes problem gambling has reached "alarming proportions" because of the Covid pandemic. The Fine Gael representative wants to introduce a maximum spend limit of €100 per day. The Minister has committed to prepare such legislation and appoint a standalone regulator. It is expected that the G gambling control bill will be published this Autumn and the Regulators will have a staff of 100 circa January 2023.

Foxwoods Resort Casino brought in $29.4 million in slot revenues in June. In May, the casino took in a record $31.1 million. The gaming and entertainment complex officially reopened in 2020. $7.3 million of the June earnings will go to the state under the gambling revenue-sharing agreement.
