Illinois to legalize internet gambling, executives predict

Experts predict Illinois could soon legalize internet gambling. It would be the seventh state to do so. The state could generate $273.7 million a year in new tax revenue. Michigan has already legalized it and made $2 billion from internet gamblers since January 2021. Delaware has only made about $42.2 million. Illinois in fiscal year 2021 generated $1.36 billion in state taxes from gambling, mostly from lottery proceeds. Illinois needs to solve its public pension problem. A pension reform would tie cost-of-living adjustments to inflation rather than a fixed rate of growth.

Pennsylvania opened for business in July 2019. Michigan reports $2 billion since the start of 2021. Bally's has won the City Council’s approval for a $1.5 billion Chicago casino.
