Nevada casinos’ win again tops $1 billion

Gaming win again passed $1 billion in May as casino licensees reported collecting a total of $1.3 billion.
That is $70.2 million more than a year ago and the 15th consecutive month of billion-plus win totals for Nevada casinos.
For the 11 months of this fiscal year, total win has increased 40.99 percent to $13.35 billion.
The monthly numbers released Thursday are driven by an 11.6 percent increase on the Las Vegas Strip — $731.5 million.
But the numbers were less positive in western and Northern Nevada reporting areas. The Carson Valley Area, which includes valley portions of Douglas County as well as the capital, was up 1.4 percent to $12.4 million. While slot win was down a bit — $14,000 — game and table win was up 55 percent, $179,000.
Washoe County, North and South Lake Tahoe were all down in May.
Hardest hit was South Shore casinos at Stateline. Total win fell 13.7 percent to $17.5 million. Across all categories of table games and slot, win fell compared to May 2021. The area’s biggest generators, penny slots and multidenominational machines were off 30 percent and 9 percent respectively. Overall, slot win was down 19 percent at the lake.
In table games, total win was up but only by $138,000.
North Shore casinos reported just $2.17 million in win with penny slots down more than 15 percent. Gaming Control Board Analyst Mike Lawton said part of the issue was the April closure of the Tahoe Biltmore.
Washoe County casinos reported $87.6 million in win, a decrease of 4.8 percent compared to a year ago. Penny slots were again the primary negative, bringing in 22 percent fewer dollars than a year ago — $18.2 million. That, however, was significantly offset by a 9.4 percent increase from multi-denominational machines that added $27.8 million to the total.
Overall, slot win in Washoe was down $5 million.
In Churchill County, total win was down 9 percent in May. Licensees there reported $2.03 million in win.
Just $16,000 of that came from game and table play. The rest was from slots.
Strip win was aided considerably by an events calendar in May including the Electric Daisy Carnival, concerts and the Canelo Alvarez-Dimitri Bivol fight at T-Mobile Arena.
Baccarat win was up 24 percent over a year ago to $134.4 million as international travelers returned.
Lawton said Harry Reid International Airport reported its third busiest month all-time in May.
