WILL GOULD'S THE GENTLEMEN SERIES MAY NEED A BOST FROM THE ONLINE CASINO INDUSTRY

Isle of Wight-born Will Gould is one of the most influential figures in the British television industry, having worked as a producer on shows like Peaky Blinders and Ripper Street. One of his next projects is The Gentlemen, on which he’s serving as executive producer. The series is an adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s film of the same name, and there are high hopes for it thanks to its all-star cast.

However, there is a risk that the series will be a flop, as this has happened with other Richie-inspired series in the past. Therefore, it would make sense for Netflix to commission slot games to help market the new offering to a wider audience.

Online Casino Sector Great for Promoting Series

The online casino sector is arguably the best area of entertainment to make people aware of a new television offering. Among the Paddy Power Games online casino games, there are slots based on series in popular culture that have helped promote them massively. Vikings is a prime example of this, and the game is one of the most-played titles on the site. The reel-spinning offering helped the History Channel show become mainstream, and lose its initial reputation as a cheap imitation of Game of Thrones.

Because the slots market is packed full of games from different genres, a slot based on The Gentlemen would fit in seamlessly. If it was released before the series came out, it would help to spark interest and lead more people to check out the television adaptation.

Who Will Star in The Gentlemen?

According to an article in Collider, Ritchie initially pitched the idea of a series about The Gentlemen to Netflix. The series won’t be a continuation of the 2019 picture, but it will follow a similar storyline with new characters. The Gentlemen movie was praised for its cast, which included the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Grant, and the confirmed list of players for the series is arguably just as good.

Movieweb has confirmed the actors involved, with Vinnie Jones probably the biggest name on the bill. He’s joined by The White Lotus star Theo James, Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito, and Kaya Scodelario, best known for her breakout role in Skins. With these names in place, the series has great potential. However, it will need to be marketed well to be a success.

Other Richie Television Adaptations Have Failed

The Gentlemen will have to learn from the mistakes of other television adaptations of Ritchie films from the past. Lock, Stock… was released in 2000 on Channel 4, but it only ran for one season and failed to reach a wide audience.

The Snatch series in 2017 was slightly more successful, as it ran for two seasons before its cancellation. However, it was panned by critics who noted that it didn’t have the magic and panache of the original film. Both of these productions flew under the radar of mass audiences as well, as they weren’t marketed on other platforms like online casinos.

The Gentlemen has the potential to be the greatest television adaptation of a Ritchie film to date. However, for Isle of Wight-based Gould to benefit as executive producer, he may need to encourage Netflix to market the game at online casinos and in other areas of the entertainment industry.
