Parx Casino in Shippensburg Township will have a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 for its new mini-casino. The mini casino was approved by Shippersburg Town Council in 2021. It will be located in the former Lowe's building at 250 Conestoga Drive. It is expected to employ 100 full-time workers and 100 part- time or seasonal employees.

Keystone Klub gaming parlor recently opened at 5001 Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township.

Shippensburg University will receive a $42,532 state grant to educate its students on the risk of developing a gambling addiction. 75% of college students have gambled in the last year. 6% in U.S. college kids have a serious gambling problem. Research shows that teenagers and college-aged adults are more impulsive and at higher risk for developing gambling disorders. The most recent research estimates that 6%. college student have gambling problems. It can result in psychological difficulties, unmanageable debt and failing grades.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has approved a license for GW Cumberland Op. Co. to build a Category 4 casino in Shippensburg Township, Cumberlands County. The casino will be located in the former Lowe’s building on South Conestoga Drive. It will have a slot machine license that allows it to operate between 300 and 750 slot machines. A table games license was also approved. The board conducted an in-depth background investigation of the application and collected public input from citizens, community groups and public officials.

Parx Casino's holding company has been granted a license to open a mini-casino in Shippensburg Township, Cumberland County. Parx expects to build the 73,000-square-foot casino on the site of the shuttered Lowe’s Home Supply store in the Shipper Towne Center.

Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA is doing well. The casino doesn't offer any on-site accommodations, but Parx plans to add a hotel to the property.

Developers of the Centre County mini-casino at Nittany Mall are counting on more than $100 million in annual revenue from the gaming operation. They invested $79.5 million upfront. The company is headed by Philadelphia businessman/investor Ira Lubert. He won the right to develop the project at a gaming board auction Sept. 2. The project is among four of Pennsylvania’s five mini casinos utilizing vacant mall or other commercial space. It takes advantage of existing infrastructure rather than building from ground up.
