Lake Mead is losing water. Several sets of human remains have been discovered in the receding lake since spring. In early May, a man's body was found inside of a barrel. It's believed he was shot in 1970s or 1980s.

How Las Vegas became a gambling mecca is not the only reason why it became the preferred gambling destination over Reno. Other factors include influx of workers to federal projects, crackdown on illegal gambling in Los Angeles and the mob's migration to Vegas.

Jeff German, 69, was found dead with stab wounds outside his home. He died of multiple sharp force injuries. German was a journalist and columnist at the Review-Journal. He was known for his stories about government malfeasance and political scandals. His book "Murder in Sin City" was about the death of Ted Binion, heir to the Horseshoe Club fortune. The 2017 mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival killed 60 people and wounded more than 400 others.

Lake Mead is drying up due to drought. The receding waters are leaving behind the usual flotsam and jetsam. Also found are the remains of a man shot in the head, stuffed in a barrel and tossed in Lake Mead. This happened in late 1970s and early 1980s when the mob was prominent in Las Vegas.

The Flamingo Las Vegas is 75 years old. It was the third casino built on the Las Las Strip and is the oldest still in operation on that stretch of road. Mob Museum in the Strip has displayed an exhibit explaining the origin of Flamingo hotel-casino. It is meant to clear myths and set records straight. Flamedo opened in 1946 on the highway heading to Southern California from downtown Las Vegas. Mobster Benjamin Siegel took control of the project from Billy Wilkerson, who lost a lot of money in Las Nevada casinos. Sieri was shot dead six months after the resort opening by his girlfriend.

Dennis Griffin died on Monday at 75 due to lung cancer. He wrote the novel behind Martin Scorsese's 'Casino' and co-authored four books with ex-mob figure Frank Cullotta. Griffin spent 20 years with the FBI and retired as the director of investigations for the New York State Department of Health in 1945.

Mob Museum is adding two vintage slot machines to its collection and a two-part presentation about legal gambling in Nevada as part of its March programming. The new slot machine is called figural slot Machines. Figural machines could be seen in Las Vegas and Reno casinos during the ’50s and ‘60s. They will be on permanent display in the Open City exhibition on the museum’s second floor starting March 1.
