September’s revenue of $155.1 million for Maryland’s six casinos was the lowest amount collected since January 2022, according to data released Monday by betmaryland.com, an online resource for licensed, legal online sportsbooks in the state.

The revenue was down 2.6% from September 2022 ($159.27 million) and a decrease of 3.9% from August 2023 ($161.4 million). It was the lowest amount generated since Maryland’s casinos generated $153.8 million in January 2022.

The Maryland casino revenue high-water mark was in October 2022 when revenues hit more than $212.9 million.

There are no online casinos in Maryland.

Casino contributions to the state in September were about $66.44 million, a decrease of 2.2% from September 2022. Of the total, the contribution to the Education Trust Fund was about $47.85 million. While the majority of tax proceeds go toward education, they also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, the state’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

All but one of the casinos have a Maryland online sports betting component to their operation.

Revenues for the six casinos in September were led by MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, which collected $61,969,980. It was followed by Live Casino & Hotel in Hanover at $58,412,443, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore at $14,451,736, Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County at $8,733,540, Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County at $6,722,454 and Rocky Gap Casino in Allegany County at $4,807,625.

Rocky Gap Casino, previously owned by Golden Entertainment Inc., was sold July 25 to Colorado Springs, Colorado-based Century Casinos Inc. for approximately $56.1 million.
