WBFF — Fifteen years after Maryland lawmakers gave the green light for casino gambling, a new proposal seeks to allow gambling at home.

Lawmakers are now considering whether to legalize internet gambling.

It's a similar measure to one that the legislature failed to pass last year.

The measure would allow almost anyone with a phone to gamble.

"I can see kids now sitting in their lunchroom playing poker and blackjack," said Addiction Expert Mike Gimbel.

The measure calls for internet gambling proceeds to benefit education in Maryland.

Experts predict it could yield as much as $97 million in a five-year period.

Some casino operators are preparing to oppose the measure fearing it could cripple their businesses.

Gimbel fears it will create a new breed of younger, addicted gamblers.

"We have to stop raising money for the state on the backs of our children," said Gimbel.
