A bill was passed in Karnataka Legislative Council today to ban online gambling portals. During the discussion on the bill in the Upper House, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Bill, 2021 aims at banning all the online sites that promote gambling through games or through means of betting.
The Police will now have authority to act against persons promoting such sites. Even those portals that invite online betting during horse race will come under the ambit of this bill. The Minister also informed that they have plans to curb Turf Club activities in the race course. He expressed dismay at the plight of families that have lost their financial stability due to horse race and other types of gambling.
