WILLIAMSON-JACKSON COUNTIES, Ill. (KFVS) - The Illinois Gaming Board approved a license for the land-based casino that is being built in southern Illinois.

Thursday’s vote means Walker’s Bluff approved application allows them to be removed from building a temporary casino and Elite Casino and Resort moving to building the full permanent casino.

According to Elite Casino Resorts the project will cost $140 Million.

It will include: a gaming floor, slot machines, sportsbook, 116 room hotel, event center, spa and multiple restaurants with live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night.

Chief Operating Officer of Elite Casino and Resort Karlyn Ollendick says they are happy they were able to get through the long process of getting approved in Southern Illinois

“We are exited to be able to build a beautiful destination resort in southern Illinois. Something that the community can be proud of and also serve as regional economic develop engine for many creating jobs. Prosperity spurring economic development.”

The casino company meets with the Illinois Gaming board sometime next week to receive approval to commence construction.

They hope to break ground in the middle to end of September.

The construction work could begin as soon as October.

Walker’s Bluff estimated the construction could take about 18 months.

Williamson County is also approved for another $10 million from the State of Illinois for road work leading to the new casino.
