Hawaii is the latest state to legalize sports betting and poker. Representatives John Mizuno and Daniel Holt want to see Kalihi transformed into a hub for regulated gambling. They want companies to establish gambling operations in the state and not just take their profits back to other states. Eric Ford, Mizuno's gambling specialist, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for running an illegal gambling operation in Kona. He is not keen on letting ex-convicts get their hands on gambling ownership or businesses. Former Honolulu police Deputy Chief John McCarthy thinks people running such businesses should be held to the highest possible standards.
