Have you ever gone to replace the batteries in your TV remote only to find the ones you have are too small?

Well look no further - it turns out a common household item can temporarily be used to turn on your favourite battery-operated devices.

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Internet amazed by battery life hack.

First, place a smaller AAA battery into the larger AA spot, then simply fold or scrunch a small piece of tinfoil before snuggly placing it into the space.

And voila - your device should work.

TikToker@jameshawkins4825 demonstrated the life-changing hack, captioning his video: “AA Battery hack! just a little foil turns any AAA into an AA.”

James first removes a dead AA battery from a wall-mounted clock.

He then goes to pop in the smaller AAA, but it doesn’t fit.

So he moves it back and forth to show how much room there is on either side.

He removes the small battery and pulls out some tinfoil, which is scrunched up and placed into the battery slot.

James then gets the AAA battery and pushes one end against the tinfoil, ‘clicking’ it into place.

And the clock is fixed, ticking away as if he had used the intended AA battery.

It works because both AA and AAA batteries carry the same voltage.

However, the hack is just a temporary fix - it is recommended that the appropriate batteries be used.

Users were surprised the simple hack had worked.

“Why did I not know this?” One asked.

“OMG all these years and it was this easy...” another said.

To which someone responded: “I was this years old when I learned this.”

But one viewer was a little distressed that the hack could cause a major hazard.

“Nice way of burning your house down,” they wrote.
