Well, if you live in Florida, you should.

That’s because the Sunshine State has the top luckiness score in the country when it comes to Powerball jackpot wins, according to online casino data tracking website Slot Tracker. The site analyzed total Powerball jackpot wins nationwide dating back to 2003. The top lottery luck score is a weighted average of the total Powerball winnings in dollars, total number of overall powerball winners and average winnings per person, according to a statement.

Florida, with 16 jackpot winners since 2003 and an average pot of more than $175 million, edged out California and Missouri for the No. 1 spot. Florida, the report adds, has reeled in $2.8 billion in Powerball jackpot wins in 20 years — more than double the total winnings of the No. 5 state, New York.

Powerball has another Florida connection: Drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, according to the Powerball website.

Powerball dates back to 1992, and tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. A ticket to play costs $2 and the jackpot grows until its won. Players win a prize by matching one of the nine ways to win. The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball, the game’s site says.

Big money is at stake, unsurprisingly, in Powerball, with Slot Tracker reporting Americans spent over $105 billion on lottery tickets in 2022.
