A couple managed to bag themselves a whopping £100,000 prize money after playing McDonald’s Monopoly. Scarlett and Luke, both 26, from Exeter, were shocked to find out they’d won the insane cash prize by eating at the fast food chain.

Now they have revealed what they plan to do with the money. Speaking to The Mirror, the pair explained they will be putting the money toward a house deposit.

For anyone not aware of McDonald’s Monopoly, it’s a food-related version of the classic board game, where customers are able to collect game tokens which represent different roads and trains stations. Each of the game pieces can be found stuck to the packaging when qualified McDonald’s menu items are purchased.

Once a customer has a full set of colours (much like the game), they will be eligible to win a prize. The more rare the colour set, the better the prize.

Other top prizes available this year included a MINI electric car and a £2,000 TUI holiday. Smaller prizes were also up for grabs, including £200 for passing GO, headphones, laptops, and free McDonald’s food.

There were five £100,000 prizes up for grabs, and customers would need to find the rare dark blue Mayfair and Park Lane to get their hands on the dosh. Scarlett, a food and beverage assistant, and Luke, a bus driver, said they were “utterly convinced it wasn’t real” when they discovered they’d won £100,000.

Scarlett said: “We both sat looking at the phone… and as much as we filled in paperwork and got on the phone to both of our parents, not even finishing our meals because we were so excited, we didn't believe it until it was in our account. We’ve never been successful on Monopoly before, not ever more than the peel off food pieces! It was really quite incredible to see it pop up.”

Having gathered all of their Monopoly pieces together, they were unsure which items had bagged them the cash. Scarlett: “I put them into the app as we ate, so it could have been anything from chips to a McFlurry to Chicken Selects.”

Although McDonald’s Monopoly ended on October 17, you can still redeem your game pieces until October 31. A spokesperson told The Mirror there are still a number of prizes left to be claimed including three of the £100,000 jackpots.
